PACK 12 PINEWOOD DERBY (Supplement to Current Year Yahara District Pinewood Derby Rules)

The following are items to keep in mind while building the cars.

Race Divisions:

- Cub Scouts (The Scouts within each Den will race against one another for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place within the

Den) (Top 3 finishers from each Den will race against one another for the Pack Championship)

- Siblings (Non-Cub Scouts, ages 11 and younger will race one another for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place within that

group)

- Parents / Ages 12 and older (Will race one another for the Traveling Trophy)

Pinewood Derby Cars:

- All cars need to be built new and follow Pack 12 Points of Enforcement. (Built in year of current Pinewood

Derby with car kit received from Pack 12 - no previously raced cars can be used) (Cars that have been

previously built / raced will not be eligible to place in any Race Division)

- All Yahara District rules apply to all racing divisions (This includes Siblings and Parents Divisions)

Pack 12 Points of Enforcement:

-

NO pre-cut or store bought cars can be used (If you do not have tools, please ask Pack Leadership for

assistance)

-

NO non-BSA axles (Pre-polished or modified BSA axels that are store or internet bought CAN NOT be used)

-

NO additional modifications to axles beyond those stated in current year Yahara District - Pinewood Derby

Rules (Axles

CAN be deburred, straightened and lightly polished)

-

NO non-BSA wheels (BSA logo must be plainly visible on the outside of the wheel)

-

NO modifications to the wheel interior or exterior (The wheels produced for the 2010 and newer Pinewood

Derby Cars have been manufactured differently from in the past and should not need to be modified)

- Wheels

CAN be lightly polished to remove slight burrs / imperfections (This includes the surfaces of the wheel

that touch the track and the inside of the wheel where the axle passes through the wheel) (Original wheel shape

/ weight

CAN NOT be changed)

- Inspection Table Scale will be

ONLY official scale (Scale at work / adjustment table is only for approximating

142 gram / 0.142 kilogram maximum weight)

-

NO vertically offset wheels / axles (All 4 wheels are intended to touch the race track while racing)

-

NO lengthening of wheelbase beyond 4.5 inches (Axle locations can be moved as long as minimum /

maximum wheel base is not exceeded)

-

NO shortening of wheelbase beyond 4.25 inches (Axle locations can be moved as long as minimum /

maximum wheel base is not exceeded)

-

MINIMUM flat section in front of car will be 0.50 inches (Flat area must be in line with centerline of car and can

be something other than wood as long as maximum car length is not exceeded and any part of the car does not

extend beyond the contact area of the starting pin)

- Weight will be measured using the metric setting on the scale (

MAXIMUM allowed vehicle weight equals 142
